6/24/25 Hibbing Speedway Regular Race with Street Stocks
Blake Adams took the headlines during the first Tuesday night tango of the 2025 season at Hibbing Speedway, claiming a pair of Feature wins in double duty between the Modified and Midwest Modified divisions.
The night of features started off with the 10-car WISSOTA Super Stock field, where Dalton Carlson claimed his first Hibbing win of 2025 in a dominant 8th-to-1st performance where he was in the lead spot by lap 7. Doug Koski led the 1st lap but slowed entering turn 1, losing a drive shaft in the process. Trevor Arens would inherit the lead until Carlson piloted around him. Arens would go on to catfish around the bottom of the speedway in 2nd place for most of the rest of the race. Austin Blom would claim the spot on Lap 19 and 20 of the contest, but was disqualified in post-race technical inspection. Arens was officially named the 2nd-place finisher, with Mikey Vajdl completing the podium.
Next was the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds who brought a strong field of 28 cars to do some 1/4 mile bullring racing. After a B Main, the Feature field started with 24 competitors going for 20 laps. Matthew Cunha led the first 3 laps but 5th-starting Blake Adams was quick to take command of the field, doing so by lap 4. Also making his way up through the field early was 7th-starting Canadian Garrett Paull, who was up into 2nd by lap 5. Paull would battle it out with the likes of Cunha, Michael Blevins Sr. and Mikey Blevins for the majority of the race, but settled into 2nd by the time the checkers came out. Blevins Sr. took the final podium spot.
The 3rd feature up was the return of the WISSOTA Street Stocks to the Hibbing Speedway for the first time in 20+ years. There ended up being 9 cars on the property, with many racers coming from all over WISSOTA-land to chase national points opportunities. The 15-lap contest was led green-to-checkers by 20-year-old Tommy Pogones, who finished a whopping 6 seconds ahead of 2nd place. That 2nd place competitor would come to be Grand Forks, North Dakota’s Trey Hess, who was sent to the tail early on due to contact causing a caution. Hess still raced inside the top 5 on 14 of the 15 laps, passing Kolton Brauer on lap 10 to solidify his runner-up placement. Brauer would fall just short of Hess to claim the bronze.
With the WISSOTA Late Models scheduled to be off, the WISSOTA Modifieds took the spot of “headline” class, albeit with only a 9-car field. Jeffrey Wood would jet out to the lead early before Blake Adams once again came creeping into and out of view of his competition. Adams took the top spot on lap 5 of this one, and it was smooth sailing in the cowboy up conditions for the remainder of the 20-lapper. The 16-year-old finished ahead of Wood and track points leader Tyler Kintner.
The nightcap was once again the WISSOTA Hornets. A few competitors from out of town made the trip over to Hibbing to chase those precious national points. One of those was Brainerd’s Russell Kiker Jr., who would lead the first lap but end up looping it in turn 1. Hometown driver Brady Fosso would inherit the lead from there, and a tough battle would ensue with WISSOTA national points leader Bobie Arnes from Foreston. Fosso and Arnes traded the lead a few times ahead of lady drivers McKenna Folstad and Jada Lore, with an elated Arnes crossing the checkers in first place after the 12 scheduled laps ahead of Fosso and Folstad.
A regulation night of racing minus the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds is on tap for Saturday, June 28th. The WISSOTA Late Models, WISSOTA Modifieds, WISSOTA Super Stocks and WISSOTA Hornets fill out the card. Then, on Tuesday, July 1st, the Iron Man Late Model Invitational returns with a $5,000-to-win headliner for the WISSOTA Late Models featuring former NASCAR racer Ryan Newman in competition. The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds and WISSOTA Hornets fill out the undercard for the Iron Man with another crucial night of national points on the line.
